Caritas Ambassadors
Caritas Ambassadors is a programme for both primary and secondary schools created by Caritas Westminster. It aims to equip pupils with a strong understanding of Catholic Social Teaching and how we can put it into action in our daily lives.
2024 - 2025
All of our Year 5 pupils have been working towards becoming Caritas Ambassadors and have been thinking about social action projects in our local community. This year they have three areas to act on:
- Care for Creation – they are disappointed with the environment in Heston Park and they amount of rubbish so they would like to clean up Heston Park
- Community and Participation – They have noticed older people on their own walking around Heston and think they maybe lonely so would like to organise an afternoon tea with parishioners. They would also like to make cookies.
- They would also like to grow more food to support our food bank as we don’t get many vegetables. We have fond a link with Cultivate London and their Thriving Communities Project. Children will be involved in several workshops setting up the gardens/ food growing area. This has a link to Heston Farm Estate as a community garden.
We were visited by Sr Silvana and Nigel at the end of April. Sr Silvana helped the children to reflect and further develop their projects. The Y5 children were awarded with their Caritas Ambassador badges along with the adults who had guided them. Sr Silvana and Nigel were gifted a Pilgrim of Hope badge from us. We thank Sr Silvana for her ongoing support.
