Our House Names
At The Rosary Catholic Primary School, our houses are named after four angels: Raphael, Uriel, Gabriel and Michael.
St. RAPHAEL (green)
St. Raphael is the patron saint of travellers, the blind, happy meetings, nurses, physicians and medical workers. He is often pictured holding a staff and either holding or standing on a fish. His feast day is celebrated on September 29, along with St. Michael and St. Gabriel. St. Raphael is one of the seven Archangels who stand before the throne of the Lord, and one of the only three mentioned by name in the Bible. He appears, by name, only in the Book of Tobit. Raphael's name means "God heals."ARCHANGEL URIEL (blue)
Archangel Uriel is known as the angel of wisdom. He shines the light of God’s truth into the darkness of confusion. Uriel means “God is my light” or "fire of God." Other spellings of his name include Usiel, Uzziel, Oriel, Auriel, Suriel, Urian and Uryan.
St. GABRIEL (yellow)
St. Gabriel is one of seven archangels who enter and serve before the Glory of the Lord, and one of the three archangels mentioned in Sacred Scripture. The name Gabriel means “Man of God” in Hebrew or “God has shown might.” He is often shown with a spear in his right hand and a mirror with an X (the first letter of the word Christ in Greek) in his left hand. The mirror signifies the wisdom of God as a hidden mystery.
According to Sacred Scripture, the archangel Gabriel is the messenger angel who appeared to people in the Old Testament and the New Testament on many different occasions. In some appearances, Gabriel is mentioned by name. On other occasions, Gabriel is thought to be the unnamed angel who appeared and made announcements to Moses, to Saints Joachim and Anne, to the shepherds at Jesus’ birth, to the myrrh bearing women approaching Jesus’ tomb, and to Jesus in the Garden of Gethsemane in order to strengthen Him.
St. MICHAEL (red)
St. Michael the Archangel isn't a saint but rather an angel and the leader of all angels and of the army of God. This is what the title "Archangel" means, that he is above all the others in rank.
